The Infamous Masterson’s , located in the heart of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my recent visit at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I experienced behind its doors was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .
The State of Affairs: Unhygienic and Abandoned
From the moment I walked in , it was evident that upkeep was not a priority at Masterson’s . The floors were sticky , and a pungent odor of decaying beverages and dirty bathrooms polluted the entire establishment . Reeking of a mixture of human waste, decay and sickness . The bar area , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and litter that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The toilet was in even more deplorable shape — clogged , with a broken handle and tiles smeared in what I can only assume was human waste .
It wasn’t just a isolated occurrence either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and talking to people around , it seems that the level of hygiene (or lack thereof) at this so-called establishment is a persistent problem . Many customers have reported spotting critters darting across the drink station and signs of rats in the bar and house area . For a business that provides here refreshments , these issues are absolutely intolerable and raise serious concerns about the integrity of the food and drinks .
